Hello Riverfriends!

I recently watched the new Mel Gibson directed movie The Passion of
the Christ at the cinema. There is a lot of controversy surrounding
this film at the moment so I can only speak for myself. I really
liked it because it touched me. I can't say I enjoyed it because it
contained extensive images of torture and made me feel very
uncomfortable. I was internally crying throughout most of the film.
However I walked out feeling spiritually revived. I feel that the
film made bold and clear statements and this is how I translated
them from my perspective:

Ignorance is not bliss, so open up your eyes to reality, realize
that greed is the foundation of evil and self-destruction.

The ability to forgive is a source of strength, love is the most
important thing in the world, a spirit that has the gift of love and
the ability to love will live forever.

And ofcourse, that we should have faith in God, and that we should
not doubt his existence or belittle his prophets or messengers.

Love & Peace...
Ahmed

Hey Ahmed
First off, I just wanted to say that I think what you wrote was
nice. I'm not even Christian but I believe in most of the ideas of
Jesus' teachings. They aren't exclusively religious values and
morals because even a not religious person can have them.
I'm glad that THIS is what you got from the movie, and not resentment
towards the Jewish people (as far as you wrote). This movie is quite
a touchy subject for me as well as a lot of other people and it is
hard to discuss. I think the main reason there is a lot of
controversy is because the movie is so intense and it can stir up
such passionate feelings, including hatred and resentment.
With this in mind, I hope that everyone can keep other's feelings in
mind, besides their own, if this is going to be a topic in ATW.
Thanks and take care all,
Love and peace
Daniela

Thanks Ahmed for sharing this uplifting post with us. Very well
said, as usual. I personally have been looking forward to this film
hitting the theatres for a while. Unfortunately that usually means
that I go into the theatre expecting too much and end up a little
dissappointed. I don't know all the details about the controversy
surrounding the film, but I think it's wonderful that Mel Gibson took
this project on. I'm hoping to get a chance to see it this weekend.

Live On, Love All and Let Live,
Ellen

Hello Daniela & Riverfriends!

Daniela, I just wanted to say that I didn't walk out of the theatre
feeling a resentment for the jewish people because I realize that
this view would be too simplistic.

First of all, I know that not all people of the same religion or
culture are identical. I'm sure that there were many jews who did
not agree with what was happening but were influenced or dictated to
by the ones who were in power.

Secondly, many of the events that occur contain a message of a
symbolic nature, whether they occur now or in the past. The message
of the story is that Jesus was rejected by his own people who called
him a liar or a magician of some sort. Looking back in history Jews
were not the only ones to do this to a messenger or prophet sent
down to them from God to educate them.

I am Muslim and I know what its like to feel unjustly persecuted and
held accountable for the wrongdoings of a handful of people. No
religion or culture is free of clowns...but just because they exist,
doesn't mean we should join their circus. The world that we live in
is still far away from the premise of peace and by watching this
film, it's easy to see why.

Love & Peace...
Ahmed
