I was 3 years old also when River died..
However I miss him very much, but I´m very confused of all
that, because I didn´t even knew what he was really like. I mean that,
it´s hard to me understand how I can be so touched about someones
death after 10 years..I sometimes think what makes him so great and
special, is it only because of his wonderful looks, but it isn´t.
It´s his beautiful person, all though I didn´t even knew him
personally. But somewhere deep inside i feel like I knew him. Maybe i
knew him through his characters, like many other River fans do.
But I know for sure that he was a great actor and musician who cared
about the nature, the animals and other people and that makes him
admirable person..for me.

love, Liisa

I was six years old when he died so I don't remember anything from
that day. I was too young and not so interested in movies back then.

But in the year 2001 I saw Stand by me. We watched it in school and
when the credits hit the tv-screen, I saw his name there. River
Phoenix.
I don't know how, but I recognized that name, I knew he had passed
away. It was a really strange feeling...
We had to write a raport of that film so I went and rented it. I
watched it 3 times and got so fascinated about his acting, that I
went to the internet to find information about him.
I found Rio's attic and finally I found ATW.

That's my little story. Hope you don't mind me putting it here. It's
kind of off topic, but...

Thanks for sharing your stories. I enjoyed reading them.

Hugs
Veera

hi guys!
First of all, I wanted to say to Debbie that I could really relate
to your post. Your words were very emotional and really struck me
for many reasons. I also remember vividly the moment that I found
out about River's untimely death. I didn't find out until Monday
when I was in my first class ( senior year of college) and a
girlfriend told me what she'd heard on the news. I gasped really
loud and people in the classroom looked at me wondering what was
wrong with me. I was in total shock and felt isolated and
withdrawn. He was way too young to be taken away. Who could I talk
to? No one around me shared the respect I had for River. Yes,
everyone knew his name but I was different because I looked up to
him. he'd taught me many things and made me aware of our
environment, our natural resources, animal right issues,
humanitarian issues, and things of that nature. He was so different
from other celebs who are self-absorbed and showing off their
possessions ( although I know not all of them are like that). River
had passion for issues and problems that many people were just not
even talking about, and he was so young to be doing this. I admired
River for sharing his passion and generosity with the rest of the
world. he really helped to educate young people , like me ( I was so
ignorant and naive about many things). After hearing about his
death, I was so saddened and disgusted at what the media did to him
and his family. I can't even describe how I feel about the
**bleeping** photographer who photographed River in his casket. I
was sad about his death for a very long time and it still hurts ,
but now I would say I have a little more peace and acceptance about
his passing. There were a few people around me who said harsh
things about him because of how he died and I was shocked that they
could say things like that. For heaven's sake, River was a brother,
a son, a boyfriend, a grandson...he was a person with a heart and
soul. I know he wasn't perfect, but who is? But he was kind -
hearted and we can all learn from that.
thanks, everyone...

shirl
