Hi Riverfriends!

A few days ago when I was at a gas station I was deeply moved
by a poster on the wall of the gas station. It had a picture of a
pretty, little 4 year old girl who lives in my town. Her name is
Makayla and she has been struggling with leukemia since she was a
baby. I can't imagine what this family has been going through these
past few years. She's quite sick but has an amazing will to live
and to fight. The poster was about donating blood to help Makayla
in her fight with leukemia. She has needed constant blood
transfusions since she was first diagnosed. I hope that every
person in this town who stops at that gas station sees this
poster and will give blood for this little girl.
I wanted to post this message to let people know the importance
of donating blood. I have only donated blood a couple of times in
my life and I feel bad about that. It's a humanitarian thing to do
and it's something I think I should be doing on a somewhat regular
basis. Since River did so many humanitarian things , I just wanted
to pass this along. I was thinking to myself, ' man, what if one
of my children needed blood like this little girl.' It hit home for
me so I'm making sure I will be at our town hall on friday to give
blood.
hugs for all!

Shirl

Hi Shirl,

I have donated blood regularly for years. It's something I feel very
strongly about. It only takes 20 minutes or so and it saves lives and
helps people like Makayla. I wish her all the best.

Thanks for posting the message, Shirl! I only donated blood one time
in my life coz I am always a bit afraid of needles. But after reading
your message and also I ve known on Friday that our taxadvisor´s
child has leukemia,it shows me once again how important it is to
donate blood. I will get rid of my fear and donate it regularly.
Thanks Shirl for posting it and all my best wishes to that little
girl!

hi everyone!

The blood drive was today from 3pm to almost 9pm in a nearby
town. I went this evening and there were many people there. I
asked one of the nurses how many people had donated and she said
over 100 people. I also met Makayla's grandfather there. He's very
sweet and he told me that not only is the blood to help Makayla but
other children and teenagers in the area .
It doesn't take much time at all and it's for a worthwhile
cause.
