ok heres the basic premises
famous musicians all play together in a LARGE festival to raise
awareness of starvation in africa. They want large corporations and
leaders of nations to donate money for the people.

this pisses me off! all it's doing is RASING AWARENESS of this
subject apparently 300,000 people are attending this concert at
allegedly $1 a head so thats $300,000 going towards what exactly?

" in 2005 it is your voice we are after, not your money."

thats idiotic! if they're getting $300,000 dollars per concert HEY
send that shit to africa!

also all these celebrities....uhhh....i watch a portion of jay-z's
performance with linkin park and during it he talked for a bit then
said and i quote "..but i don't want to get too political here i just
wanna jam" yea thats right because live 8 isnt about the political
content its just about a great concert...yea i wonder how many of his
cars he sold to help fund this shit... oh wait i remember zero just
like every other celebrity on this program. Their pockets are zipped
shut but their mouths are wide open...in fact, Hey! they're getting
gift baskets with all these exspensive items in it! A starving child
is enough to warrant your attention but not important enough to pry
you of your ipod? don't critize me or tell me of the poverty in
africa instead, let me hop in my private jet and go deal with
this "situation" personally...oh wait, that's right! i don't have a
JET or the MONEY to ride one yet you do.....assholes.

My main point here is why africa?huh what makes africa soo special
that we need to give ALL our money too? because of starvation? last
time i checked america had starvation....it also has defacets, poverty
among other things and no doubt many other countries face these
problems as well so we give africa a bunch of money hows that gonna
help? whats a tribe gonna do with a $5 dollar bill? or 35 euros? jack
fucking shit is what its gonna do or maybe it can go get some
cheeseburgers at mcdonalds (in fact its other nation's faults for
africa's defecits) i mean where was the ROCK AGAINST A TSUNAMI? huh?
why didnt anybody rock against that?

Anyway, I just thought what River would think about all this. Do you
think he would have agreed to play at this event or no? It's only
being funded to raise awareness, so in reality, none of the "stars"
are pitching in finacially that I know of....

iSiS,

I'm gonna have to ask you to stop your swearing in posts, I don't
like reading it and i'm sure others won't either.

Live 8 was free to attend here in the UK as far as i'm aware. Live
Aid 1 in 1985 was about fund-raising, which all it really did
was "buy them lunch" as I heard it put today. The message WAS "we
don't want your money, we need you" and it's so true, they want us
to march on the streets of Edinburgh and achieve 3 things:

Better Trading

It's an obvious solution - challenge and change the rules so they
work for poor countries. Re-write them so poor countries can
develop, build their own industries, grow stronger, and one day
compete as equals. Rich countries used trade rules to protect
themselves as they developed - which is how they got where they are
now. Now we need to use trade rules to end world poverty as we know
it and to stop them recieving charity all the time.

Drop the Debt:

Two weeks ago 280 million Africans woke up for the first time in
their lives without owing you or me a penny from the burden of debt
that has crippled them and their countries for so long. The deal
struck by G7 Finance Ministers was a victory for the millions of
people in the campaigns around the world. But the deal affects,
immediately, only 18 countries. There are twice that number in need
of help, including Nigeria. And though debt cancellation should be
directed in ways that reduce poverty and improve governance it must
not come with arduous economic strings attached.

More aid:

But it's vital that this Aid focuses better on poor people's needs.
This means more aid being spent on areas such as basic health care
and education. Aid should support poor countries' and communities'
own plans and paths out of poverty.

Two out of three won't be enough, we need all three and a whole lot
more, the politicians cannot dismiss this, something WILL be done,
the cancellation of debt is almost a certainty I heard.

>>ok heres the basic premises
famous musicians all play together in a LARGE festival to raise
awareness of starvation in africa. They want large corporations and
leaders of nations to donate money for the people.

I didn't hear anyone ask for money today.

>>this pisses me off! all it's doing is RASING AWARENESS of this
subject

Bob Geldof told all the musicians when he asked them to play, in
particular Madonna that "This is not a fund-raiser, this is to raise
awareness, so of course it's about raising awareness, there was no
denying it.

>>thats idiotic! if they're getting $300,000 dollars per concert
HEY
send that shit to africa!

Maybe I misread this comment, as later on you said "whats a tribe
gonna do with a $5 dollar bill? or 35 euros? jack
fucking shit is what its gonna do"

>>like every other celebrity on this program. Their pockets are
zipped
shut but their mouths are wide open...in fact

You obviously haven't heard how much money Sting has donated over
the years.

>>My main point here is why africa?huh what makes africa soo
special
that we need to give ALL our money too? because of starvation?

Yes, because of starvation, disease, poverty, 30,000 kids die each
day from the above mentioned, and because it's not happening in
Britain, where it would bring the country to a halt, people tend to
ignore it because it's Africa, so yes AWARENESS is the reason for
Live 8. Why should 30,000 be dismissed? It wouldn't in Britain, so
why should it be ignored in Africa?

And yes, I think River WOULD be apart of it, in some form or another.

Wasn't it Raul Julia who said "Anything is possible when a critical
mass of people get behind it." And wasn't it River who agreed with
him?

Okay, the main reason I wanted to see it was to see Duran Duran,
which I did thanks to the Internet itself. But I done a lot of good
causes that would make River happy. March of Dimes, AIDS Walkathon,
etc.....I did all those things out of the kindness of my heart.
Okay, I know causes are important. I know that. It is just that
well....I was happy to see my band, Duran Duran. You know, how you
get sidetracked and forgot what the cause once you see you favorite
band: REM, Midnight Oil, or The Smith. You know, how all the
adrenaline inside of you comes out like an explosion? That's how I
felt when I seen Duran Duran, which I will see them on July 31st.

I know it was a cause, but I got sidetracked when played Duran Duran
on the Internet stream....it is just pure excitement and nostalgia
to see them again on the Net.

Ok first off I really have to apologize to everybody here. In the
heat of the moment I get aggravated and say things that I don't mean
or they just come out the wrong way. (plus, I have been having a
really lousy day.So..sorry) It's just that, I see so many people
that are homeless and hungry here where I live. We don't have
shelters for them and they just camp out in the park. I just don't
understand how we can live in such a technologically advanced
society where you can create bombs that will wipe out entire
populations, yet we still don't have a cure for aids or poverty.
Maybe my frustration comes from knowing, that yeah, there will be
more awareness, but at the end of the day, those celebrities will go
home to their comfy mansions and the problems facing Africa and MANY
MANY other countries will still exist. I mean just the other day, I
read Mariah Carey was breezing through angry protesters to check out
blood diamonds at Debeers and now what? She's singing on live8? It
just doesn't make sense to me. I wish there was a way of helping
people without hurting others. You know, like keeping it balanced? I
just wish that all countries would ban together and divide their
money equally so NOBODY would have to suffer. But again, I dunno. I
don't have solutions either, just opinions. I mean River didn't want
to play a fundraiser sponsored by MTV because he thought it would be
more about self-promotion than actually helping people, so that's
why I brought that up. Some people just don't really care about the
issues, they just want to see their favorite singer onstage
