THE DEPARTMENT OF PEACE CAMPAIGN

In September of 2005, a landmark Bill to establish a cabinet level
Department of Peace was re-introduced into the U.S. House of
Representatives (H.R. 3760) and introduced for the first time into
the U.S. Senate (S. 1756.)

The primary function of a United States Department of Peace is to
research and facilitate nonviolent solutions to domestic and
international conflict. Those skilled in ameliorating the effects of
violence -- from conflict resolution experts to nonviolent
communicators - have proven their effectiveness at treating root
causes of violence, thus augmenting our current problem-solving
modalities. Peace is more than the absence of war; The Department of
Peace will be an institutional platform for the proactive waging of
peace.

The Peace Alliance is a citizen's campaign to support this
legislation, with Department of Peace activists already working in
over 300 Congressional districts. With your help, we can continue to
make traction in turning this peace-building network -- and the
ideas it represents -- into a powerful political force.

Hi Kelly,

Thanks for telling me what the proposed Peace Department would do--I
have to admit I hadn't a clue, and my first reaction to the news
was "a department of What?!"

I'll visit the site you mentioned above to get more information.

Regarding the gathering, I'm in the same boat as you; insufficient
funds. Too bad.

Thomas

go.

It's cool, I hope one of us can go there...Daniela and Ed could go,
they're from L.A.
Of course it's expensive, but think of all the interesting people
you would see there. Maybe a chance that won't come again.
But I can't really go, cuz I have no clue about American politics
and I would really only go because of the people who are there, I'm
honest.
I think I would be able to pay the 250, but I wouldn't have the
money for the flight. haha
Plus I'll go to Berlin in 2 weeks, that's enough of a trip for me.
Maybe one day, when I'm rich...lol
