If anyone attended the Stand By Me celebration, I would love to hear how it went. I was going to go, but at the last minute decided against it. I believe it was June 28th, but i'm not positive. Anyone who went, it would be wonderful to hear how much fun it was. :]

Love Always,
- Morgan

Hi Morgan

I went and it was really a lot of fun! We got there a little after one, when everything had started. They had classic vintage cars on display, 5 or 6 of which were in the actual MOVIE! I got pictures of them. One of them was the brown truck that Gordie walks by in the beginning of the film. They had a scavenger hunt in which you searched for the dead body, but I didn't do that. You could go to scene locations from the film as well. The man who played the "dead body", the character of Ray Brower, was there, though I didn't see him. However, I did meet the woman who was in the pie eating contest scene of the movie!!!! She's the woman yelling lard ass during the contest and who throws up into her purse. She was so sweet. She autographed a sheet of paper for me, which I'll post here. They sold posters, t shirts, key chains, water bottles, and postcards--all to do with stand by me. I got a t shirt, poster, and some postcards. I'll post pictures of those too. From 3-5, they had a sock hop, but my family doesn't dance, lol, so during that time, we went off to A&W to eat (that's a restaurant here in the states). When we got back to Brownsville, the pie eating contest was about to begin. It started a bit after 6, and was the FIRST offically sanctioned blueberry pie eating contest. They had to have their hands behind their backs and it was just like the movie! Except no one barfed, lol. The audience WAS HUGE, and reminded me so much of Stand by Me. During the contest, they played Stand By Me by Ben E. King and other various songs of the '50s. Afterwards, everyone got some food and headed over to where they inflated the HUGE screen to play the film on. They waited till dark, and everyone had their chairs & blankets out. A little after 9, Stand By Me came onto the screen. And I can't tell you how beautiful an experience it was. Because we were in this BEAUTIFUL park at night, the moon was completely full and bright, the brightest I'd ever seen it, and so were the stars. I'd look at River on the screen up to the stars in the sky, then back to River, and it was amazing. Like he was there with us. I think he was.

It was so much fun.

I took pictures of the shirt & poster, but can't find the cord for my camera to add 'em on the computer. Once I find it, I'll post them here.

Lots of Love

It sounds like you had such a wonderful time. I hope to visit Brownsville, Oregon someday to see the locations where the movie was filmed. I've been told by my family (those who have visited Oregon) that it is a beautiful little state. And even from the pictures it looks great. Thanks for sharing those pictures. :]

Love Always,
- Morgan
