yes, the song text is sad, but i think it has nothing to do with river's mood or with the fact if he was depressed or not.
apparently many people write diaries or song texts to express their feelings and if a song text is sad, then it just expresses your emotions of that point of time when you wrote it. you can't see from a song text if he was depressed or not. i mean if you read my diaries of my youth you would think i was depressed too, but i was just not satisfied with my life and the school i went to.

I see River as a hypersensitive person, seems that he was one of those intense thinkers, and due to that also stressed and depressed.

Hey Irena. I agree with you on that assessment. He also seemed shy. Perhaps that is why he enjoyed acting. He was expressive in that sense.

HELLO THOMAS! too bad you did not keep my book one of the first chapters 3, Damning the Flow, talks about River's not necessarily depression but his problems with his childhood past in the hands of the Children of God. The psychologist I interviewed called it "shame based behavior." (see page 32). Elsewhere in the book I refer to River saying he "had the billls to prove" he saw a psychiatrist.

Hi Barry!

Thank you for answering my question; I remember reading about River's horrible experience at the hands of the cult. I guess River had to be depressed about that.

As for him seeing a psychiatrist, I don't know how I missed that in your book--getting old and forgetful I guess.

I do regret a little that I gave my two copies of your book to my local library, but I wanted people here in Gloversville to read about River. Oh well, I can always buy another copy.
