| i didn't know this but australian actor and singer Jason Donovan OD'd at the viper room, just a little over a year after River, only this time the story had a happy ending

i read a forum a while back(don't remember what forum)and there was some talk about famous people that died because of drugs. River was mentioned and then there was a guy who said he had taken a trip to L.A recently and he was walking down sunset boulevard, and not far from the viper room, he saw a young guy OD on the sidewalk. what's with that place?

| I remembered when that happened... I was a Jason Donovan's fan *hides self in embarrassment* and it really creeped me out.
I live in LA and used to hang out in the various clubs on the strip and have never witnessed anyone ODing... I've seen a lot of people walking around strung out on drugs but thankfully no one ever collapsed. But the whole scene is certainly linked very much to drugs and the drug culture. Always was and probably always will.

| Hey Ronny
I remember this vaguely. It's weird. The couple of times I went there I did not see anyone on drugs. I thought the doorman was an a-hole, but other than that, I actually liked the place. I went there with Daniela, Edward, Barry, my boyfriend and some friends the first night (Oct 30.) We left the tributes on the sidewalk, and went inside after a while. There I met a friend of mine. Totally random. I came all the way from Denmark and didn't tell him about my visit (his schedule is kind of tight.) But there he was. That was so strange.
Then, the next day I went back to celebrate Halloween. Kind of weird. I didn't really think about it before a couple months later but this is what happened:
A friend was playing a show there, and I was really excited to see him play. He'd gotten my name on the guestlist, so I'd get in for free. My friends and I left early, so we'd make it in time, but on our way there everything went wrong, and we came 30 minutes late. The moment I entered the club I saw my friend all sweaty, and he spotted me and said "You just missed one hell of a show, missy!" I was so bummed out. It actually ruined my whole night.
From what I know about what went down that night in 93' it sounds kind of familiar - only I did not sooth my pain with drugs.

| how crazy and creepy...
lucky guy..seriously.. it just really sounds even in certain details like it was almost repeating.
i seriously find it a bit shocking that, while taking the drugs there that night, he hasnt even given a thought to what just happened to river there about a year before. i have been very addicted to drugs myself for years in my teens but was lucky to get out of it... i have seen pals dying on this and this didnt leave me cold and i had to think about it every time... especially if i was him being at the viper and the tragedy with river not so far away, i couldnt really put myself at ease. hmm.
i wish someone would have pulled the plug on the 31st october 1993 and called the ambulance right away like with donovan... i still cant figure out why nobody noticed it or was perhaps even left cold.
hel, i am very surprised that you could even have at least some fun at the viper room... i couldnt at all.. all this tragic vibe and awareness would just sprinkle me with unease and even panic attacks. respect.
this place seems like a total, darn i cant even find the words, sinking ship to me.
i heard alot that the viper room hasnt so much luck in keeping its head over the water... not so much people liking to come there anymore and that they try alot to keep its spirit going.. i even heard that investors werent so much interested either.
wonder if all this has something to do with the tragical history and vibe there.

| the date in that article is wrong. a year earlier would have been 1994, right?
but yeah, don't they say river passed out twice? they should have called an ambulance the first time he passed out. *sniffles* then it would have been a happy ending too.
