Yeah, that's sort of how I feel, too. I wouldn't mind seeing River in that role, but I would mind not seeing Emile in it. He did a superb job.

Hi Irena! The movie was good, but in my opinion, the book is much better. I always seem to find that to be the case when I read the book before I see the movie anyway, though. The movie does go into more depth about Chris's problems with his parents. I think the author of the book was trying to be respectful about that. Although, there was a huge issue with his father that the movie does not touch on at all. I don't want to tell you and ruin the book for you.

But, the book just has much more detail about where Chris's head was at. They also of course play up the relationship with Kristen Stewart's character, Tracy. Gotta try and throw a little romance in there.

I liked them both though. I just would not have understood the movie as well had I not read the book first. I highly recommend it. I think River would have done justice to the role if he had made it back in 1993 or 1994. Obviously, though since it was made recently, had he lived it would not fit as he would be in his late 30's. Chris died a little over a year before River did.

There are a couple of nice tribute videos on Youtube that have more of the pics of Chris that he took of himself in Alaska.

Omg, Into The Wild...
Its INCREDIBLE ! im sure River would of liked it.
& he would have been excellent as Chris, however no objections; i LOVE Emile Hirsch. Without the whole fall into boytoy high school girl scene like Leonardo had to suffer, he's amazing. Check him out, he's similar in a lot of ways to River.
Plan to read the book soon, & (embarrasingly) getting all the book that Chris reads in the movie... LOL

Oh my my my. It is my favorite movie. I have read the book a dozen times, and seen the movie three times that. (LITERALLY!) Anyway, yes, it is an excellent movie, an excellent read. I really think River would have liked it. I never thought if River would have liked it before, but now that you thought of it and brought it up, yes, I do think he would have liked it and related in more ways than a couple. Anyway, thanks for posting. I am off to watch the movie right now! (And probably re-read the book). When you see it more and more and read the book more and more, you become more enveloped in it and understand things a lot better. Anyway, thanks again!

Hey Brianna

Unfortunately I haven't had the pleasure to read the book yet. BUT, the more I watch the movie, the more I understand Chris - not saying his decisions are always right, but I can understand why he'd think the way he does etc. The second time I watched the movie I understood that he actually realizes that he's been wrong about some things. (The first time I watched it I was basically blown away by the beautiful shots and the superb acting.)

So you're definitely right about that. BTW, hi! I don't think I have talked to you before. Nice to meet you!
