I just found this little bit from an interview with a 17 year old River. He looks so healthy and he's actually making eye contact...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eemSttVHT60&feature=related

I've noticed how the older the got, the less eye contact he made with the camera or the interviewer, and how the enthusiasm in his voice would descend.

Does anyone know which interview this clip is from? Or if there's a full length one out there?

Yeah...You right about the eye contact. He was so pure in that time. I like to watch him like this.....

P.S. As much as I love ?My own Private Idaho?( I consider it as a masterpiece) and River in it, I have to admit: After that movie River had changed as a person and as an actor. I am not judging or blaming anyone but obviously problem started around that time.
I love River because he was a brilliant actor and beautiful soul. He got lost in his life and paid the highest price for it....So sad...

I completely agree with you, I honestly think that if River never made that film then he'd still be doing fine. Rodney Harvey as well, after filming MOPI he began using heroin and had a similar fate as River, though it happened years later.

It's really heart breaking

I feel that River would have gotten in trouble no matter what. I personally think he already had problems with drugs before that film.
