Hey everybody,
First of all, I want to wish you all a merry Christmas and a belated happy thanksgiving.

I wanted to make this post, because I wanted us all to have the opportunity to discuss River Phoenix: The Truth Behind The Myth.

In my opinion this is one of the best books I?ve ever read and the only one I?ve read about River. I have to say that after reading this one, I don?t feel the need to read any other books about him and his life, because I think that Barry gave such an insight into his life that no other author could have given us.
My favorite part is the story of River calling one of his fans, who had been going through a hard time and therefore sent him a letter. I think it is such a beautiful story!

Plus, I think the foreword is some of the most beautiful things I?ve ever read. I was crying when I was reading those beautiful words by William Richert.
What?s your favorite part? :P

I think that Barry really made such an effort to give us something precious to hold on to in relation to River and I really wanted to take the opportunity to thank him for that and praise him for his hard work. Thank you Barry, for giving me the opportunity to get to know River better! I think it is beautifully written and I think River would have liked it too.

Take care,
Simone

Hey Jo

Just wanted to let you know - in case you don't already know - that there are a lot mistakes in John Glatt's book. For instance the family did not get their new surname Phoenix from the Children of God. There are just a lot of inconsistencies in the book.

I've always thought Glatt wrote the biography to earn money. His heart doesn't seem to be in it at all, which is a shame.

Take care,
Helene

I carry the Truth Behind the Myth everywhere (I move around a lot, it's one of the first things I pack with me), so that when ever I need comforting I open up and read a chapter, I don't know why it's so comforting for me, but everything about River just feels familiar. It's like I have a constant friend with me every time I'm away from home. I love the book! Barry did a great job. I especially love the fact that a dream compelled him to write it, it gives it such mysticism.

My favorite part would have to be the chapter in which William Richert and others talk about how he was "luminous", how they saw an aura and glow around him. They were pretty powerful words
