There's way too much negativity in the writing of that person...
I do believe that River would got away of the bad things in his life and would come to a brighter and happier point in his life. Maybe he retired from the film business to concentrate on his music or to be with his family and friends in private.

River's death was, plain and simple, an ACCIDENT. The things he was indulging in were the same things almost all of his acting contemporaries were doing. The only difference is that River got VERY unlucky one night. I am convinced that he would have pulled out of the whole drug scene eventually and gone on to bigger and better projects. A lot of what Depp, Pitt, and DiCaprio (and I love all of those actors)landed in film parts I think would have been parceled out to Phoenix. It's strange, but sometimes when I see DiCaprio in a film like "The Departed" or Pitt in "12 Monkeys", I can more than easily see River in that very part, putting his own unique spin on those parts...

Impossible to say with any certainty, but I had read that River longed to devote his life to full-time activism. He alluded to the fact that (during the time the question was asked) that this was not possible.

With this in mind I feel he would have moved away from lead roles and into Directing and Producing. He had started a script based on his own father's life, etc. I am sure he would have supported and enjoyed the efforts such as "I'm Still Here" - if not doing something similar himself.

I have a feeling he would have started several large international organizations relating to environmental and humanitarian causes - not unlike the River Phoenix Peace Center - but much larger and more comprehensive.

River would likely be active in some way in politics - involved with endorsing liberal politicians as well - as he had already done so endorsing Clinton and Gore in 92.

I feel his focus would shift away from mainstream films as he matured -- and of course still have a very active career in music - not just as an artist but a Producer, Director and possibly his own label.

Again, nobody can know with any certainty -- but this is my guess.

Yeah in my opinion, he'd definitely be writting, producing music, and probably still acting, but his first love was music.
